To use the appliance capable of generating ozone gas is forbidden:

  • In an enclosed space if there are people or animals are present!
  • Enclosed, non-ventilating room under 8 mᶟ!
  • In a room where thermal process may initiate as the effect of oxidation, e.g. alcohol vapour is present!
  • It is forbidden to leave the appliance capable of generating ozone gas unattended beyond the confines of the closed room!
  • It is forbidden to lock up the appliance capable of generating ozone gas while in operation so that the room cannot be left from the locked side!
  • Well visible warning sign, indication shall be placed on the closed room in all cases!

To use the appliance capable of generating ozone gas is to be located in the room,

  • Always check if the room can be ventilated after the expiration of the safety period!
  • Ensure the proper operation of the doors and windows used for ventilation prior to operation!

Symptoms of acute exposure:

4. Using ozone to kill novel coronavirus

For more than 100 years, ozone, considered a killer of virus in the nature, has been widely used by people for disinfection, sterilization, deodorization, disintoxication, storage, and bleaching thanks to its strong oxidablity.

And because of this, ozone should be adopted as a weapon in the global fight against COVID-19. It has three following attributes.

Full coverage. Ozone created by ozone generators or electrostatic air purifiers can reach every corner of the environment, which can overcome the problem that ultraviolet sterilization can only go straight up and down, leaving some places unsterilized.

High detergency. Oxidizing bacteria and virus is how ozone works, with no poisonous residue. On the contrary, the chemical disinfectant we use now is not only harmful to human body, but also will cause secondary population of poisonous residue. During the current epidemic, the overuse of disinfecting water has been a serious problem that we should pay attention to.

Convenience.Ozone can be produced by simple equipment. The equipment, large or small, can be used for a single room, a large public space, or public transportation modes such as buses, high-speed railways, ships and airplanes.

The effectiveness of ozone in treating bacteria and virus is not only related to its concentration, temperatures, humidity and exposure time, but also related to the strains of bacteria.

According to results of the experiment on how ozone kills SARS virus conducted by the national P3 laboratory headed by Professor Li Zelin, ozone is effective in killing the SARS virus inoculated on green monkey kidney cells, realizing a killing rate of 99.22%. The virus found in Wuhan and SARS virus both belong to the coronavirus. Researchers found that the novel coronavirus is 80% similar to the SARS virus in their genome sequences. It is reasonable to predict that ozone is equally effective in preventing and controlling the new coronavirus.

What is ozone?

Ozone is an unstable molecule made up of three atoms of oxygen. In normal circumstances this gas is invisible, but in large quantities it has a blue hue. It also has a distinctly sharp odour. Curiously, ozone turns into a deep blue liquid below -112 °C, and transforms into a deep blue crystal below -193 °C.

What does unstable mean?

Ozone (O3) is an allotrope of oxygen (O2), meaning that they are both gasiform, but their molecular structure is different. Ozone is one of the strongest oxidants. Due to its instability, ozone breaks down to ordinary oxygen molecules (O2) and monatomic oxygen. The latter is an extremely strong oxidizing agent, meaning that if it meets readily oxidizable substances, it triggers instant decomposition even on low temperatures.

How can we utilize ozone?

In the 19th century, ozone was already used for sanitation, disinfection, medical treatment and water treatment purposes and for food preservation.  Ozone is still used for the same purposes today, but the scope of its application has significantly widened since. Today, several water treatment plants use ozone technology to clean the water, because the water treated by ozone is of higher quality and it tastes better than tap water. In many food processing plants, ozone treatment is used to keep fresh those food products which contain milk, meat, cheese and proteins. Also, during the World War, ozone was already applied in physiotherapy; later, it was used to support muscle development of sportsmen. Today, ozone is also widely used by hair stylists and by the cosmetic industry.

IS OZONE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN CHLORINE?

In short: Yes! Ozone is one of the strongest oxidants, with a disinfecting effect 600-3000 times stronger than that of chlorine. What’s more, ozone has an exceptionally strong disinfecting effect without leaving any residue or stains, and you don’t have to tidy up or put away your things before an ozone treatment. Ozone breaks down to pure oxygen, leaving only fresh air and a disinfected environment behind. Due to its gasiform nature, ozone is able to reach such places which are difficult or impossible to reach with traditional or even industrial cleaning tools. Furthermore, compared to other cleaning substances, ozone eliminates microorganisms more aggressively in a way that they have no chance to develop an immunity against ozone – as it sometimes happens with certain chemicals.
